Tom Ahearne was featured in October’s edition of the Washington State Bar News magazine in the “Meet your 2025-2026 Board of Governors” section. Tom was elected to the Washington State Bar Association’s Board of Governors in 2023 to a three-year term as one of the Board’s two diversity, equity and inclusion seats.
An Air Force brat who grew up all across our country, Tom joined Foster Garvey’s predecessor firm in 1986. As the Bar News article about him explains, Tom admits that for most of his life he didn’t know what it was like to feel like the outsider in a group, or discriminated against, or excluded. But a 2014 snowboarding accident reversed his perspective by imprisoning him in the wheelchair from which he now sees and feels that aloneness, inequity, and exclusion every day. So he ran for the diversity/equity/inclusion seat he currently holds to focus on the State Bar’s equity and justice for all efforts, because Tom believes that we’re all better off if every person has a realistic opportunity to become the best they can be.
