Insurance & Financial Meetings Management

Insurance & Financial Meetings Management reached out to Greg Duff, chair of Foster Garvey’s national Hospitality, Travel & Tourism practice, to discuss how meeting planners can protect themselves in a post-COVID environment. The article, titled, “Limit Your Liability,” covers key requirements and legal issues for meeting planners to consider as the pandemic continues to evolve.

“Planners need to carefully consider the venue’s cancellation, re-booking and force majeure contract provisions, and understand what conditions or circumstances warrant cancelling the meeting without liability,” said Duff.

Duff also encourages frequent communication between groups and attendees about the venue’s COVID practices and policies. “Understand the restrictions applicable to attendees and how the facilities and use of the facilities might be different.” He further underscored the importance of understanding what steps the facility will have in place to maintain guest health and safety, and to “set out in writing those steps that the groups want to be taken.” These could include testing, cleanliness, disinfecting or vaccination policies and procedures, among others.
