Possession of cannabis in any form within U.S. airports or commercial aircraft is considered illegal due to the federal government’s jurisdiction over airports. This has been especially brought to light due to Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ recent announcement that federal prosecutors are now free to prosecute growers and sellers under federal marijuana law. However, enforcement on those who travel with pot or cannabis-infused substance is not so clear cut due to ambiguity of Travel Security Administration (TSA)’s enforcement. Emily Gant assesses that while traveling with pot is generally not a very good idea, especially with greater risk of potential cannabis crackdown, she has not yet seen any substantial changes in enforcement policies and many stories about travelers being arrested.
